5 things to enhance your boating lifestyle

If your boat is located at Bobbin Head you may already know about some of these! At Empire Marinas we like to be more than just a place for people to keep their boat and so we go the extra mile to provide services, Podcasts and even apps to help our clients get the most out of their boating lifestyle. Let's share some with you here:

The Boatmaster App

🛥️   Learn how to drive your boat well

  • Being a boss at berthing your boat not only makes life more fun when boating but it can also save you money avoiding damages and maybe even a relationship or two! At Empire Marinas one of the family (one of the young genius ones) took on the challenge of creating an app to teach people how to drive their boat. It's done game style but with physics created to ensure it is as realistic as it can be given you are doing it on your phone on your sofa :) it's FREE (unless of course you want to get even better and bigger boats in the game and even then it's a tiny investment) here's a link to get playing and show off next time you hit (or rather don't hit) the marina.

  • Once you've mastered Boatmaster and think you might need some more help on the water itself then we highly recommend getting some one on one lessons. Companies like Australian Boating College, Boatbuy, Above and Beyond Boating and Boatwise can help.

🛥️ 2. Wear clothing that's made for boating

Whether it’s sunny or stormy, wearing the right gear can make all the difference when out on the water. Investing in high-quality marine clothing helps you stay dry, warm, and protected against the elements. Look for brands that specialize in performance wear for boating like waterproof jackets, non-slip shoes, and UV-protective gear.

Why it’s great:

  • Stay comfortable in any weather

  • Protect yourself from the sun, wind, and rain

  • High-quality materials that last longer

Check out some top brands like Slam, Henri Lloyd and Helly Hansen for the best boating apparel.

Grab a coffee and a Bacon and Egg Roll at Waterside Bistro at Empire Marina Bobbin Head before you set off on your adventure boating - no-one enjoys boating on an empty stomach and lack of caffeine dose :).

🛥️ 3. Enjoy a drink but....

  • Avoid the alcoholic ones. Boating, being out on the water and being a responsible crew shouldn't involve alcohol but you shouldn't miss out on the flavours you love.

  • Lyre’s Non-Alcoholic Beverages offer a fantastic alternative. From refreshing spritzers to mocktails, Lyre’s allows you to enjoy the social aspect of boating without the alcohol.

    Why it’s great:

    • A range of delicious non-alcoholic options

    • Perfect for day trips when you want to stay sharp

    • Refreshing flavours without the hangover

Explore their full selection on Lyre's.

🛥️ 4. Engage with the community at your marina

  • One of the most rewarding aspects of boating is the community that comes with it. A strong, supportive marina community can make your boating lifestyle even more enjoyable. Take part in marina events, BBQs, or group cruises. Socializing with other boaters adds to the camaraderie and fun.

Check out events like the BBQ event at Empire Marina Bobbin Head. These community-focused gatherings are an opportunity to meet other boaters, swap tips, and enjoy good food and drinks while soaking in the atmosphere.

    Why it’s great:

    • Build lasting relationships with fellow boaters

    • Learn from the community’s collective knowledge

    • Have fun at marina events and activities

🛥️  5. Listen to The Boat Princess Podcast and Follow Her On Instagram

It’s the perfect companion for your time on the water.

We hope these tips help you enhance your boating lifestyle.

Where you keep your boat or which club you join based on which waterways they have access to can make a huge difference to the enjoyment of your boating lifestyle. Marinas like Bobbin Head are sheltered from the winds and are away from passing water traffic so berthing is far easier and less stressful. There is also abundant parking, ice, bait and a lovely cafe on site too. All of these factors are things to consider when choosing which marina or Boat Club location is right for you and those on your boat to enjoy the best possible boating lifestyle.
